A cricketer before playing a Cover Drive

Be it test cricket or limited-overs cricket, cover drive is one of those shots that have come under scrutiny as of late. Babar Adam or Virat Kohli- all the best players of the game are the best players of the shot. It is one of those movements of the willow which can earn you if you succeed and bring you criticism if you fail to get it through. Reccently, there have been more wickets off cover drives than not. Not that the likes of Lara and Jayawardhane never got out playing to a widish full ball like that but the wickets tally to that shot has gone up. Due to the fast-paced nature of modern day cricket, you have to take it occasionally out of the bag. But, wondering what an average cricketer thinks of the risk of playing cover drives, I present the following as an argument against those who call it a careless choice. Scene: Border Gavaskar Trophy Specifications: Kohli about to play a cover drive "If I play the cover drive, will I get it through? Is it not possible I get an edge o

Student Before Entering Examination Room

Suppose a student is standing outside the examination room. He has a book in hand. What would his thoughts be when he is about to enter the room. "I should revise this. No, I just missed out on this. The examination is about to start and I have not revised every thing. Why, here's the proof. This extra information here- how difficult it is, to memorise everything now. I  better had stayed up one hour more at night. Should I make chits to take it in. That way, I would not need to memorise and I can even get full marks. What pride it would be. But, wait a minute. Would it be right? What if I get caught? No, that is not too good an idea. (The bell rings). Oh God, the bell has rung! And I am thinking about this meaningless stuff. Oh what! I left one page. I think I should keep the book down and now and not panic about whatever I have left otherwise I will forget what all I have already memorised. I should go into the hall and answer whatever I remember. Other things, I will write

Archer Before Shooting an Arrow

Let us suppose an archer is shooting an arrow in an eliminator round and this is her last chance to score a if she wants to win the game. What would she think? " This is my last chance. I have the dreams of many with me. Before this arrow, what all I did will not matter now - it won't matter how many 10 - pointers I have shot. It is a matter of a few seconds. The positions of many others also depend on me. The whole country has hopes. If this last chance is hit, I will be welcomed with flowers and blessings. If this one does not hit, I will be targets for scorns and trolls. I need to focus now. Just a single accurate hit is needed. Should I take some more time or shoot it before my hands start trembling. Should I adjust the arrow a degree north or a degree south? No, what if it does not hit on the target if I adjust it a lot? I will be the culprit of breaking a million hearts and not being able to fulfil a million expectations. Just release it now. No more thoughts."
